Acceptable use policy
uVPN is for normal private browsing. The following are not allowed.
Prohibited
- Sending spam or any form of bulk or unsolicited email
- Attacks on credentials, including brute forcing and credential stuffing
- Port scanning, vulnerability scanning or intrusion attempts
- Operating or participating in a botnet
- Denial of service attacks of any kind
- Scraping at scale
- Automated creation of accounts
- Automated cryptocurrency activity
- Fraud of any kind
- Distributing malware
- Child sexual abuse material — we report this to the authorities
- Any other illegal content or activity
- Copyright infringement
- Reselling access, or running a public proxy over your subscription
- Hosting servers or accepting inbound connections through the tunnel
- Peer to peer file sharing and torrenting
- Attempting to bypass restrictions where doing so is unlawful, including age verification requirements
How we enforce this
We enforce what can be enforced without looking at your browsing. We do not perform deep packet inspection. In practice that means:
- Outbound mail ports are blocked on every gateway
- Inbound connections and port forwarding are not possible
- There is a limit on simultaneous devices and on connection rates
- We watch aggregate bandwidth for anomalies, without attributing them to browsing activity
- We can drain a gateway or suspend a subscription
Complaints from third parties
When a provider or rights holder complains about traffic from one of our addresses, we can only correlate it using time-limited operational information, and only where that is necessary and legally reviewed. We frequently cannot identify a single subscriber, because we do not hold the records that would make that possible.
Consequences
We may suspend or terminate a subscription that breaches this policy, without a refund.
