Neither route is more private than the other when they arrive — it is the same app and the same signing key. Google Play gives automatic updates; a direct APK does not.
iOS
Apple requires an approved Network Extension entitlement before any VPN app can be distributed, followed by App Store review. We will not give a date we cannot commit to.
Verifying what you downloaded
Compare the checksum of your file against the value above:
sha256sum uvpn-1.0.1.apk
Android will warn you before installing an app from outside the Play Store. That warning is expected for a direct download; the signature above is what proves the file is ours.
